Holistic Therapy and Healing- Acupuncture

When people think about acupuncture, they often think about what could be the scariest part of the procedure: all those needles being stuck into a person. Many people have a fear of needles; however, this type of procedure is essentially painless, even with all the needles involved. Although this type of treatment has been used for hundreds and thousands of years, there is still quite a lot that people do not know about acupuncture. Its origins are rather mysterious, and how it works is also confusing for some people.

Acupuncture was developed over 5000 years ago in ancient China. This practice began as a procedure to release stress and realign a person’s chi. Chi is most commonly known as a special type of energy that travels through your body. There are a specific fourteen points where this energy is known to flow. When your chi runs off its designated course, a person can experience stress, depression, and even pain. To alleviate these symptoms, acupuncture needles are placed into the fourteen points on the body where the chi is known to flow. These needles allow bad energy to be released and the chi to align itself back with its original course. This alignment cures the discomfort and depression you were previously feeling.

The thought of needles being placed into your body for a period of time is enough to make anyone a little uncomfortable. However, these needles are not the kind of needles that are typically used when you undergo a medical procedure. While regular needles need to inject something into your body, acupuncture needles are designed to release bad energy and realign good energy. These needles are much smaller than a regular medical needle. Most people do not even feel the acupuncture needles entering their bodies, but if they do, it is only a small pricking feeling that quickly goes away.
